Policeman injured in Kashmir gun battle

Srinagar, April 14: A policeman was injured Monday here in a gun battle between separatist guerrillas and security forces, an official said.

A police officer told IANS that security forces surrounded a house in Ahmad Nagar, 10 km from city centre Lal Chowk, Sunday evening following intelligence reports about guerrillas hiding inside.

The officer said an operation to flush out the militants was launched Monday morning after negotiations to have the two guerrillas surrender failed.

“When challenged to surrender, the holed up militants started firing at the security forces, injuring one policeman.

“The operation against the holed up militants has been started today (Monday) morning,” the police officer said.
