Bangalore, May 12: To spread the message of well-being during pregnancy, expecting mothers walked down the ramp here on Sunday on the occasion of International Mother’s Day.

Draped in colourful attires, the moms to be walked the runway with both pride and joy.

Organiser of the fashion show, which was conducted by a maternity hospital, Dr. Kishore Kumar, said they have been celebrating Mother’s Day with participation from over 21,000 mothers with the objective of promoting the message of happiness and wellness associated with pregnancy.

“So, we have created a safe environment. But again, it is a celebration. So, we want to celebrate. That’s why we started a Mother’s Day celebration from first year onwards (first year of a maternity hospital). Now, it has become a big event because it has been seven years and we have had 21,000 mothers, so that’s why we do it on a grand scale,” said Kumar.

Excitement and joy ruled the hearts, when moms and kids join together in the myriad of activities.

Activities like selfie photo competition, talent hunt, etc were held and winners were also declared.

Payal, who participated in the event, said this event is a success because it makes the mothers feel special.

“Its nice, it’s good to be here. It’s for mother’s day basically, so we get to know how special we are. Being a mother is really a special thing which is being applauded over here,” she said.

Mother’s Day was celebrated all across India with people thronging shops to hunt for the best gifts for their mothers on the special day.

Mother’s Day was first observed in 1907 at the request of Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia, to honour her deceased mother.

According to poet Robert Browning who put it aptly “Motherhood: All love begins and ends there.”

Two years later, Jarvis and her friends began a letter-writing campaign to create a Mother’s Day observance.

In 1914, legislation was passed by the U.S.Congress designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. (ANI)
