J-K police arrest two militants involved in killing village sarpanch’s father

Pulwama, May 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday arrested two militants from Pulwama District, who were overground workers (OGWs) of the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, allegedly involved in the killing of Dubripora village headman’s father.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Awantipora Pulwama, Parvez Ahmad said that both the militants were arrested whereas the search for the main accused and a wanted militant Riyaz Naikoo was still on.

“Ghulam Mohammad was father of Dubripora village headman Mohammad Shahban. When we investigated into the matter we found that Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant Riyaz Naikoo from Baidpora along with his two accomplices named Ishfaq Ahmed Dar, Son of Abdul Hamid and Latif Ahmed Dar who is the son of Ghulam Hasan Dar. We have arrested both Ishfaq and Latif and we have recovered the pistol from them which was used for the killing whereas we are still in search of Riyaz Naikoo who is a wanted militant of HM. And this is confirmed now that the killing was done by the three of them,” said Ahmad.

The 85 year old was gunned down when he was coming out of the mosque after offering his prayers. (ANI)
