Amethi, May 5: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Monday released the party’s election manifesto for Amethi, the bastion of the Gandhis.
Meanwhile, party candidate from Amethi, Smriti Irani said, “When we started campaigning, many people ridiculed us. They said it was the Gandhi family pocket borough. Would be like heaven… I want to tell them, there are no potholes in heaven.”
She said the MP from Amethi talks about women’s empowerment but has failed to provide education to young girls in the constituency.
Taking a jibe at Priyanka Gandhi, Irani said, “Whenever we have raised questions of development, the Congress has not said anything. One woman leader said you have to be large-hearted in politics. When women don’t have toilets at home, is it a sign of large-heartedness?”
She appealed to the people of Amethi to abandon the politics of relationship and choose BJP which will work for the future of the constituency.
Amethi is among the 64 constituencies that will go to polls on May 7 in the eight phases of Lok Sabha polls 2014. Today is the last day of campaigning for the phase.
Congress Vice President Rahul is seeking re-election for the third time from Amethi, where the party has won 10 out of 12 elections. He has been campaigning hard across the constituency since May 3. (ANI)
