Six "Speedstars" from India to visit Australia for week-long training programme

New Delhi, May 8: Six sprinters of India are heading for a week-long training programme with Sharon Hannan (world renowned Australian coach and ex-coach of London Olympics 2012 Gold medalist Sally Pearson) in Australia on May 9, 2014.

The sprinters were chosen from 20,000 participants, who had participated in the second edition of country’s biggest athletic initiative- Speedstar.

KOOH Sports launched the second season of “Speedstar”, a nationwide talent hunt for the young flying Indian.

KOOH Sports is a new age Sports Company set up with a passion to get kids of today to embrace sport and more importantly a healthier lifestyle.

The talent hunt is conducted under the aegis of Athletics Federation of India with P.T. Usha as the mentor.

The Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) has supported the cause and has been instrumental in facilitating the training for the athletes with the industry’s best. As our country partner, Australia has extended their assistance to foster co-operation in the field of sports education.

Griffith University our partner will host the winners and also conduct master classes for them during the training programme.

The six winners (three boys and three girls) who will be flying to Australia are:

(1) Hare Krishna from Hyderabad and (2) Mansi Pendarkar from Pune who will train for the Under-12 100 meter race.

(3) Priyanka Chenoy from Pune and (4) Gurinder Veer Singh from Jalandhar who will train for the Under-14 100 meter race.

(5) Siddhi Hirray from Pune and (6) Kshitij Bhoite from Pune who will train for the Under-16 100 meter race.

Speedstar Season 2 has identified 8 of the fastest boys and girls under 4 age categories (Under 10, 12, 14, 16) in the country.

The event has been conducted across 10 cities- Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Lucknow, Jalandhar, Pune, Goa, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. The finale was held on February 9, 2014 in Mumbai.
