Akal Takht Intervenes to call off Sikh Conventions

Amritsar, July 26: While abiding the directive of Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs , the Shiromani Akali Dal ( Badal ) SAD (B) has decided to cancel their scheduled gathering at Gurdwara Manji Sahib on July 27 .

The Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh has directed that all Sikh conventions scheduled to be held in Amritsar and Kathal district of Haryana should be cancelled. The directions were issued by Jathedar on a day before the SAD (B) was to convene an International Sikh Convention at Amritsar.

He said he has ordered every Sikh organization to immediately call off all the conventions they have called and put all their efforts to prevent any conflict situation in the Panth (community).

“Being religious head of community and Jathedar of Akal Takht, I direct all the concerned parties to immediately cancel their proposed conventions being held in Amritsar and Haryana” said Jathedar of Akal Takht.

Cabinet minister Daljit Singh Cheema told ANI that “As soon as we received the directions from Akal Takht we informed Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who immediately directed to cancel the Panthic gathering” he said adding that SAD (B) had always bowed before the directions of Akal Takht.

Welcoming the decision of the SAD to call off its Amritsar conclave on the directions of the Akal Takht jathedar, the Dal Khalsa said once again, that Akalis have used the offices of the Akal Takht jathedar but this time for good reason. The organization feels that cancelling of both the conclaves would provide oppurtunity to the warring factions to reduce the tension.

Kanwar Pal Singh said notwithstanding the reason behind it, Gaini Gurbachan Singh has been asked by the SAD to provide them an escape route. He said very strangely, the Jathedar has also given the same direction to the HSGPC leaders to whom he himself have excommunicated from the Sikh Panth few days back. He said the Jathedar should take back the edict in which he has excommunicated the 3 Sikhs of Haryana and play the role of the elderly person of the community to find out ways for the resolution of the crisis.
