Iran’s envoy to India says Muslims should help Palestinians

Agra (Uttar Pradesh)/New Delhi, July 26: Iran’s Ambassador to India, Ghulam Raza Ansari, has called on Muslims across the world to help Palestinians to have their own land, as death toll in the Gaza Strip passed 800.

Muslims in Agra in Uttar Pradesh staged a protest against Israeli attacks on Gaza.

Gaza officials said Israeli strikes killed 33 people on Friday, including the head of media operations for Hamas ally Islamic Jihad and his son. They put the number of Palestinian deaths in 18 days of conflict at 822, most of them civilians.

More than 1, 40, 000 Palestinians have fled 17 days of fighting between Israel and Gaza militants, many of them seeking shelter in buildings run by the UNRWA. Israeli forces are trying to stop militants from Hamas and their allies from firing rockets into its territory.

On Friday, Muslims held protests outside Fatehpur Sikri mosque demanding Indian politicians to stand by their ideologies and send a clear message to Israel to stop offensive.

“Palestine is part of the Muslim world and we all should concentrate, all the Muslims should concentrate for our unity, our dignity. So we all should concentrate to help the Palestinian people to have their own land,” said Ansari.

Meanwhile, Muslims in the national capital also protested against the continous bombardment by Israel on Gaza. The protest was held outside the principle mosque of the city, Jama Masjid.

Protesters burnt Israeli flag and prayed for people of Palestine during the holy month of Ramadan.

Palestinian rockets and mortar bombs have also killed three civilians in Israel. Such attacks surged last month as Israel cracked down on Hamas in the occupied West Bank, triggering the July 8 air and sea barrage on the Gaza Strip that escalated into an invasion last week.

An ensuing wave of cancellations by foreign airlines sharply reduced traffic at Israel’s usually bustling international gateway at the height of the summer tourist season, and was hailed as a victory by Hamas. (ANI)
