Court asks CBI to trace PIL mover in Koda scam

Ranchi, Aug 31 – The Jharkhand High Court Tuesday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to trace and bring before it Durga Oraon on whose public interest litigation (PIL) a probe was ordered in the multi-crore-rupee scam allegedly involving former chief minister Madhu Koda. A division bench of Justice Bhagawati Prasad and Justice D.N. Patel directed the CBI to present Durga Oraon before it as the state police had failed to bring him Tuesday.

One more in CBI custody in Gyaneshwari case

Kolkata, Aug 30 – A court in West Bengal Monday gave the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody of a pro-Maoist activist in Jhargram of West Midnapore district for his alleged involvement in the May 28 Gyaneshwari Express tragedy, CBI sources said. Mahanta Mahato, arrested in June for several offences including murder and serving judicial remand, was sent to CBI custody by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) following an appeal by the CBI. The CBI counsel pleaded at ACJM Abdul Rejja’s court pleading to take Mahato in its custody as it had got evidence against him in the Gyaneshwari case.

Parliament adjourned over alleged misuse of CBI

New Delhi, Aug 30 – Disruptions returned to parliament on the penultimate day of the monsoon session Monday as opposition members forced adjournments of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha over the alleged misuse of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the government. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members demanded discussion on the issue amid noisy protests. When Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar rejected the demand, the protesting MPs trooped towards her podium raising slogans.

Sohrabbudin killing: Cop says CBI wants her to implicate Shah

New Delhi, Aug 28 – Gujarat police official Geetha Johri has moved the Supreme Court alleging that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was mounting pressure on her to point an accusing finger towards some politicians, including former minister Amit Shah, in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh killing. Additional Inspector General of Police Johri said in her petition filed Thursday that the CBI was forcing her to name as accused some politicians, including former Gujarat minister of state for home Amit Shah, who is currently in judicial custody. She said that the CBI threatened her with ‘wild charges, in order to pressurize’ her to implicate Shah.

Sohrabuddin case: Geeta Johri accuses CBI of pressurising her

Ahmedabad, Aug 28 : Senior Gujarat Police officer Geeta Johri has accused the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of pressurising her to implicate some political leaders, including arrested former state Home Minister Amit Shah, in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case In a curative petition filed with the apex court, she sought the removal of Balwinder Singh, CBI’s Special Director, who is supervising the investigation into the case. She alleged she had been asked by CBI to depose in a particular manner in the case and that her personal assistant was threatened by the CBI. The curative petition also challenged the apex court’s decision not to expunge adverse remarks made against her in the case.

Sohrabuddin case: CBI quizzes Gujarat cop for 9 hours

Gandhinagar, Aug 26 – Police commissioner of Gujarat’s Rajkot town Geetha Johri was quizzed for almost nine hours by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here Thursday in connection with the 2005 staged killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh. She arrived at the CBI office here around 10.30 a.m. and left around 7 p.m.

Sohrabuddin case: Geeta Johri appears before CBI

Ahmedabad, Aug 26 : Senior Gujarat Police officer Geeta Johri on Thursday appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for questioning in connection with the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case. Johri reached the CBI office in the old secretariat campus here. The investigating agency had summoned Johri, who is currently posted as Commissioner of Rajkot, to appear on August 10, but she had then requested for more time as she had returned from a long leave.

Gandhinagar, Aug 26 – After ignoring two summons, police commissioner of Gujarat’s Rajkot town Geetha Johri appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here Thursday in connection with the 2005 staged killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and the later elimination of his wife Kauserbi. This is the second time that she is being questioned by the CBI, the first time being in March this year. Johri had avoided two previous CBI summons, issued Aug 10 and 20.

Sohrabuddin aide’s murder also part of conspiracy: CBI

New Delhi, Aug 25 – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has told the Supreme Court that Gujarat staged shootout victim Sohrabuddin Sheikh’s aide Tulsiram Prajapati was also killed as part of a criminal conspiracy. Prajapati’s killing was an integral part of the criminal conspiracy behind abduction and killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kausarbi in 2005, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told the court in an affidavit filed last week. Prajapati was killed in an alleged staged shootout Dec 28, 2006 — almost a year after Sheikh’s killing.
