Maruti to pump in Rs.1,925 crore for new plant at Manesar

New Delhi, Sep 7 – Car market leader Maruti Suzuki Tuesday said it is planning to invest Rs.1,925 crore to set up a new plant in Manesar, Haryana, to expand its annual production capacity from the current 1.2 million units to 1.75 million units by end of fiscal 2012-13. The investments for the Manesar plant was announced by O. Suzuki, chairman and chief executive, Suzuki Motor Corporation, on the sidelines of the Maruti Suzuki India’s 29th Annual General Meeting (AGM) here.

Damage to Himachal roads due to rain Rs.332 crore

Shimla, Aug 28 – Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh this season have damaged roads and bridges that may require at least Rs.332 crore for repairs, a minister said here Saturday. ‘The state roads and bridges have suffered a loss of Rs.332 crore till date during the rainy season,’ Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Gulab Singh Thakur told reporters here. He said road connectivity is being restored on a priority, especially in apple-growing areas where the crop is waiting to be shifted to markets.

Himachal donates Rs.1.01 crore for Leh victims

Shimla, Aug 27 – The Himachal Pradesh government Friday decided to donate Rs.1.01 crore for rehabilitating people affected by the recent flash floods in Leh and Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir, an official statement said here. ‘The cabinet took decision to donate Rs.1.01 crore out of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the flash floods victims,’ said the statement. The council of ministers also decided to donate Rs.11,000 each for helping the victims.

Centre approves Rs 1,479 crore under NHDP in Jharkhand

New Delhi, Aug 20 : The Central Government on Friday approved a Rs 1,479 crore project in Jharkhand under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP). “The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure (CCI) today approved the implementation of the project of four laning of Ranchi-Rargaon-Jamshedpur section of NH-33 from 113.73 km to 277.50 km in the state of Jharkhand under NHDP Phase III,” said an official statement issued in New Delhi. The construction period for the project that will be built on design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis will be 15 years.

BIAL to spend Rs.1,000 crore to revamp Bangalore airport

Bangalore, Aug 19 – The Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) consortium will invest Rs.1,000 crore (Rs.10 billion) to enhance and expand its airport at Devanahalli, about 38 km from this tech hub, a top company official said Thursday. ‘The Bengaluru international airport will have a new look with enhanced capacity in terminal 1 to meet the rapidly growing passenger traffic to and from this city,’ BIAL Vice-Chairman G.V. Krishna Reddy told reporters here.

Rs.2,837 crore collected for construction workers’ welfare

New Delhi, Aug 18 – The government has collected Rs.2,837 crore as cess to be spent on the welfare of construction workers across the country, parliament was informed Wednesday. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Harish Rawat said that the cess collecting authorities set up in 31 states and union territories have collected Rs.2,837 crore. The state advisory committees have so far registered 59 lakh construction workers, which is comparatively a smaller number compared to the 2004-5 National Sample Survey’s estimate of 250 lakh construction workers in the country.

Leh, Aug 17 – Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday visited flood-ravaged Leh in Jammu and Kashmir and announced a Rs.125-crore relief package for the victims. He also promised to visit the people again before the onset of winter to assess the situation. The prime minister, who arrived here on a day-long visit, said that all houses destroyed in the Aug 6 devastation will be reconstructed within the next two-and-a-half months.
